Thousands of books have been written about Venice. Even more guidebooks. Dozens of tours take place here every day. But despite all this, for years I've had the feeling that Venice is often looked at with little understanding. how it works.

Dates. Names.
Photos of facades.
And very rarely the question:
Why exactly so?
— Why did the republic exist for more than a thousand years?
— Why don’t palaces sink into the water?
— Why did Venice have two symbols?
— Why is St. Mark's Square the only one? piazza in Venice?
— Why did the state trust the recommendation only of someone who was responsible for it with his own reputation?
These questions are rarely asked during a regular tour.

That's why this project came into being.

Every text that I will publish weekly,
will be the answer to a question that is rarely asked.
Each plot is based on
historical sources, architecture, documents and research.
