Private visit to the Scuola Grande di San Rocco
A tour of one of the most beautifully decorated and distinguished buildings in Venice.

Scuola Grande di San Rocco was founded and established in 1478 as the Battuti School and was later elevated to a fraternity by Pope Pius VI. It is dedicated Saint Roch, whose feast day is still celebrated every year on August 16, who enjoyed great veneration because he was believed to protect against the plague and whose remains had been in the possession of the brotherhood since 1485.
The decoration of this two-story architectural masterpiece was commissioned by Tintoretto in 1564, who worked on it for more than twenty years, creating his most famous pictorial cycle with episodes from the New and Old Testaments. But there are other wonders hidden in this magnificent space: Christ of Portacroce and the Annunciation by Tiziano Vecellio, two paintings depicting Abraham and the angels, Agar and Ishmael by Gianbattista Tiepolo, The Baroque staircase by Giovanni Antonio Fiumani, Pietro Negri and Antonio Zanchi, and the Treasury with reliquaries built by Giorgio Fossati.
